"I came in thinking this was going to be GORUCK with better scenery. By day three I understood it was something else. The evening debriefs are where the actual work happens — Derek runs them the way a respected expedition leader is supposed to: calm, specific, demanding, honest about what I screwed up and why."
We won't publish
what we haven't earned.
Untamed Tribe is in its first operational year. Our pilot ETP weekends, domestic expeditions, and the Peru and Belize flagship cycles are still ahead. That means there are no participant testimonials on this page — yet.
We could fabricate them. A lot of new operators do. We won't. Documentary photography of real participants under load, debrief quotes pulled from the structured AAR seven days after extraction, year-out check-in updates — that's the only social proof we'll ever publish here. Earned, not flashy.
Every expedition ends with an After-Action Review.
Within seven days of extraction, every participant sits a structured AAR with their lead guide — borrowed directly from the military operational discipline that shaped how Derek runs this organization. Not a "how was your trip" survey. A real debrief: what worked, what didn't, what changed in you, what you're taking home.
The quotes that eventually appear on this page come out of those conversations, with the participant's written consent. Not marketing copy. Not testimonial-mill phrases. The actual words people use when they're still processing what just happened to them.
A 30-day check-in follows the AAR. So does a year-out conversation. That's where you find out whether an expedition actually changed someone — or whether it was just a hard week they got over.
Four kinds of field reports. No others.
There's a reason this page is structured before there's anything to put on it. The format matters as much as the content. Generic five-star "amazing experience" quotes are the language of adventure tourism. We don't talk that way and our alumni won't either.
Debrief Quotes
Pulled directly from the seven-day AAR. Attributed by first name, role, and expedition (e.g., "Colorado EPC — Cohort 01"). No first-name-only stock-photo fakery.
Year-Out Check-Ins
A short follow-up twelve months after extraction. What stuck. What changed at home, at work, under pressure. The only test of an expedition that actually matters.
Long-Form Field Reports
Participant-authored expedition write-ups, published on Tales of the Untamed. Real terrain, real weather, real decisions, real fatigue. Not a recap — a record.
Guide Endorsements
From the certified contract guides — mountaineering, diving, paddlesports, SAR, wilderness medicine — who choose to run trips under the Untamed Tribe banner. Operational credibility from peers, not customers.
What an Untamed Tribe field report sounds like.
Two examples of the format and tone we'll hold our published quotes to — drawn from the kind of language our target participant actually uses. These are illustrative of voice and structure only; they are not statements from real participants. Real names, real expeditions, and real consent will be in place before anything is published here.
"Twelve months out, what stuck wasn't the summit photo. It was the turnaround call on day four. Watching how the team made that decision under fatigue, with weather closing — that reshaped how I run engineering reviews at work. I'm a different decision-maker because of one bad afternoon at altitude."
The signals that do exist — honestly stated.
No customer quotes yet. But the early validation we've gathered is real, and worth naming directly rather than dressing up.
Pre-Launch Signal
- Inbound interest from experienced guides and outdoor professionals seeking collaboration under the Untamed Tribe standard.
- Early conversations validating demand across veteran, dive, climbing, and high-performing professional communities.
- Consistent feedback from veterans and outdoor professionals on the capability-over-comfort positioning vs. adventure-tourism branding.
- Operational infrastructure live: Stripe, SimplyBook.me, Mapbox, Garmin inReach integration on the roadmap.
Operational Credibility
- Veteran-founded. Engineer-built. A four-person core team — Derek, Sam, Adam, Bryce — each with a defined operational role.
- WFR-minimum standard on every lead guide. Documented SOPs and Emergency Action Plans.
- 4–6 participant team size by design. Small enough that nobody hides.
- Application-based enrollment from day one. Tourists book. Capable people apply.
Be among the people whose words live on this page.
The first ETP weekend and the first domestic expedition cohorts are filling now. The Peru and Belize flagship rotations follow inside the first operational year. Those participants will be the first names on this page — by first name, role, and expedition code, with written consent, pulled from a real AAR.
If you want your field report on this page a year from now, the entry point is the application. We'll handle the rest.
Next Step
Stop reading other people's stories. Write one.
Apply for an ETP weekend, a domestic expedition, or one of the international flagships. The first conversation is with Derek or Sam — a fit assessment, not a sales call. Both sides decide.
Capability over comfort. Standards over scale. Earned, not flashy.
